At St Heliers school, we recognise that sometimes children need extra support with their learning. We have a dedicated team of professionals who work with these children to increase their skills and build their confidence.  Each child who joins our school undertakes an assessment to enable us to discover their current stage in reading, writing and mathematics.  This assessment can also identify when students need additional support in these areas.  Our team works with these students to help them reach a level where they can fully participate in all the learning opportunities at our school.

We have a dedicated team of professionals who work with children to increase their skills and build their confidence.

From the moment our youngest students join us after their fifth birthday, we are very conscious of our duty of care.  This duty encompasses not only promoting a lifelong love of learning but also ensuring an environment in which children’s well being is nurtured and their needs are met.

Our older students are asked to take on responsibilities which see them looking after their younger counterparts. This pastoral care teaches them to think of others, show empathy and give reassurance.

The teachers and other staff encourage the children to always try their best, learn from their mistakes and show honour and respect towards each other.  At our school, they will develop many of the values that will shape their futures. In essence, they are learning how to grow up.  Our role is to be excellent models for the children in our care and to steer them towards making good choices in their learning, social behaviour and communication.  At the end of their time with us, our aim is to create well-rounded, self-aware and conscientious learners.

On this journey, children need to know that if they fall, they will be caught, and if they take a wrong turn, they will be guided back on to the best path for them as individuals. That reassurance is an important part of growing up at St Heliers School.

St Heliers School staff are chosen for their professionalism, passion and dedication.

Several of our staff have been at the school for many years and liken it to a family. We have 55 people on our team, who work across all areas of the school. Alongside our classroom teachers, we have specialist support staff (for reading recovery and learning needs), office administrators, IT, Library  and Resource personnel, Language Centre teachers for ESOL and International students, and our Property Manager.  Everyone is committed to delivering the best possible outcomes for all the children in our care.

Our team is led by our Principal, Sean Valvoi;  Deputy Principal, Patsy Torrie; and Deputy Principal, Alex Wood.  Between them, they have 97 years combined teaching experience.

con kids 29St Heliers School is a welcoming community that stands for excellence in academic achievement and fosters independent, well-rounded students. The school is a community that is innovative and encouraging, where sound values underpin all school activities.

St Heliers School is a Full Primary (Year 1-8) Co-Educational located in Auckland, New Zealand and has approximately 640 students enrolled.

The teaching teams are Y0-2 (Terehu Team), Y3-4 (Paikea Team), Y5-6 (Pakakē) and Y7-8 (Kākahi).

"Our aim is to guide and nurture each student to reach their potential in all areas of school life. Integral to achieving this aim is having a close partnership between home and school.
Discussions between parents and teachers about student progress and achievement are encouraged.
Being a full primary (Years 1 to 8) we are in a unique position to see the development of the students from young bright-eyed 5 year olds to young adolescents. From the earliest stages of their schooling, students are encouraged to be independent, responsible learners.
Older students are expected to look out for younger students. At the start of the year senior classes are buddied up with a junior class to support the children in various aspects of their schooling. This also helps to create the family atmosphere we want at St Heliers."
