Terehu (Y0/1) Bug Day
On Thursday, September 4th, the Terehu children had a fun, hands-on learning day all about insects. With the help of parent volunteers, including special guest Claudio Cubillos Pefaur, a professional entomologist, we embarked on an exciting trip to Dingle Dell.
Claudio came prepared with a variety of resources to spark the children's curiosity. The students were taught how to use a beat sheet, a tool for collecting insects, and then went on a bug hunt using a special activity sheet to guide their discoveries. It was a fantastic way for them to get up close with nature and see the tiny creatures living all around us.
After our adventure in Dingle Dell, we returned to school where Claudio shared his passion for bugs, with a special focus on his favourite: the stick insect. He challenged the children to become curious learners, encouraging them to ask questions and seek out new knowledge. The students were amazed as they got to see the internal organs of a stick insect and examine other fascinating resources.
It was an unforgettable day that truly captured the children's imagination. We may just have some future entomologists in our midst!
