2 Teams Medal at Water Polo Tournament
Our two teams competing at the NZ Water Polo Year 7/8 Winter Festival Tournament did extremely well.
Our St Heliers Maroon team, which was comprised of one Year 4, three Year 5's, two Year 6's, and only three Year 7's, came second in the C-grade. The final ended up being a local derby against Churchill Park. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts from every player, we lost to a very strong, but much older team.
Being at a distinct size and age disadvantage was a theme throughout the tournament. Despite this, the Maroon players played without fear and displayed incredible tenacity.
Our St Heliers Blue team, which was also a very young team, with three players in Year 6, also came second to a very strong Glen Eden team in the final. Of B-grade competition. All the players had strong tournaments, but Reuben Handy was a standout.
This is third year in a row, St Heliers has medalled at NZ Water Polo Year 7/8 Tournaments and the first time we have had two teams medal at the same tournament. We were also the only school to medal in two different grades at Winter Festival.
Most importantly, all the players had fun throughout the four days of the tournament.
