Kākahi Museum Trip

Our Museum Trip

By Spencer and Zara

On Wednesday the 7th of May for Year 8 and Thursday the 8th of May for Year 7, we were very lucky to be able to go to the Auckland War Memorial Museum. This was so that we could learn more about World War 1 and World War 2 to support our reading inquiry. During the trip we saw incredible artifacts like gas masks, and some of us were even able to try on coats and hats similar to the ones worn in war. Kakahi was also able to visit other galleries like the Weird and Wonderful or the Volcano room. We were very fortunate to have Aaron give us a tour of the World War 1 and World War 2 galleries, and to be able to ask questions to help us with our own learning.

It was a privilege and honor to be able to visit this museum and pay our respect to the many who have died in the war’s. As part of the tour we encountered the wall of remembrance where all the dead soldiers that fought in World War 1 or World War 2 had their names engraved on the wall. Visiting a variety of rooms gave us all an insight of different aspects from the Wars including rooms like, the timeline, life inside the trenches and a room with all the flags that signed the treaty of Versailles. Kakahi learned so much from this trip thanks to our experienced tour guide and it would not have been possible without the organization from the teachers.
