Magnificent Matariki
Written By Sean Valvoi
19 June -For the very first time the school community celebrated Matariki by gathering together on the turf this morning at 7.15am for the dawn ceremony. A number of children from all year levels red about the stars. There were also waiata and the Boys Choir performed for everyone. Afterwards everyone went up to the hall where they had a either a chocolate chip or cheese muffin and a hot chocolate.
During the school day the children were in whanau groups to make manu tuktuku (kites) and waka huia (treasure boxes). Because we started so early this morning school finished for the day at 2pm and then the families went off to enjoy the long Matariki weekend.
