Welcome to St Heliers School

DSC 0052St Heliers is a school that strives for excellence. Our aim is to guide and nurture each student to reach their potential in all areas of school life. Integral to achieving this aim is having a close partnership between home and school.

Being a full primary (Years 1 to 8) we are in a unique position to see the development of the students from young bright-eyed 5 year olds to young adolescents. From the earliest stages of their schooling, students are encouraged to be independent, responsible learners.

Older students are expected to look out for younger students. At the start of the year senior classes are buddied up with a junior class to support the children in various aspects of their schooling. This also helps to create the family atmosphere we want at St Heliers.

Year 0-2 Science in a Van

Optical Illusions & Gases

On Friday 17 August the Year 0, 1 and 2 children had an action packed morning of science. With the day starting with a science taster, they then watched optical illusions and tried to work out why Mrs Lyon was able to sit on a chair of nails without hurting herself! Each year group then had a 45 minute session working with Emily and Alan from ‘Science in a Van’ understanding more about the material world and bubbles! The children were able to grasp the concept that different mixtures do different things. For example they can mix, separate or create a reaction. The children finished the session by seeing different gases behave differently.


Did you know that we can make bubbles sink quickly to the floor, float or fill them with helium and watch them float to the ceiling? Just ask Year 0-2 to explain why?
